Opal

Opal takes its name from a Latin word meaning precious stone.  The Romans believed it was the symbol of hope and purity.  The Arabs believed that opals fell from heaven in flashes of lightening and thus acquired their marvelous color.  To preserve their beauty opals must be treated with care.
