Zircon
Zircon represents the December birthstone. The legend of Zircon begins
when Hyacinth a Greek youth was slain; the wild hyacinth flower was believed to
have sprung from his spilled blood. Since wild hyacinth in Greece are blue
to blue violet, Pliny, the Roman scholar, compared Zircon to hyacinth. The
main sources of Zircon also comes in other colors such as brown, violet, red and
colorless. Some brown varieties of Zircon are heat treated to produce
colorless and blue Zircons.
