Amethyst
Amethyst, as the story goes, originated from Bacchus, the god of
wine, who grew angry at a mortal and vowed that the next moral to cross his path
would be eaten by tigers. At that time, along came a beautiful maiden be
the name of Amethyst who was on her way to worship the goddess Diana.
Diana saw Amethyst coming and turned her into a colorless quartz to protect her
from the tigers. Bacchus, observing the miracle, repented and poured wine
over the stone of Amethyst staining it purple. Amethyst is primarily from
Brazil and Africa. The very dark purple color is sometimes heated to
lighten and intensify the beautiful royal color.
